Anodized vs Powder-Coated vs Mirror: SS Railing Finishes

Two railings can use the exact same profile yet look — and last — very differently depending on the finish. Finish affects shine, feel, corrosion resistance, maintenance and cost. Here is how the common stainless steel railing finishes compare.

Mirror (high-polish)

A mirror finish is buffed to a reflective, chrome-like shine. It looks premium indoors and in showrooms, but it shows fingerprints and water spots, so it needs regular wiping. Best for interiors and low-touch feature areas.

Matt / satin (brushed)

A brushed matt or satin finish has a soft directional grain. It hides fingerprints and minor scratches far better than mirror, which makes it the practical choice for busy staircases and handrails that get touched constantly.

Anodized

Anodizing builds a hard oxide layer that improves surface hardness and colour retention. It gives a clean, uniform look and holds up well indoors and in covered outdoor areas. It is a popular default across the Prince Railing range.

Powder-coated

Powder coating applies a durable coloured layer that resists weather, UV and corrosion. It is the go-to for fully exposed outdoor railings, coastal projects and anywhere you want a specific colour (black, bronze, custom RAL). It also lets you match the railing to window frames or facade elements.

Which finish should you choose?
