SS Top Handrails for Glass Railings
Top handrails — the hand-hold and the glass edge protection
17 products in this system
A top handrail caps the exposed upper edge of the glass. It gives the user something to actually hold, it protects the glass arris from impact, and it ties a run of separate panels together into one continuous element.
What this system asks of the build
The profile you choose is a grip decision before it is an aesthetic one — a 50 mm round rail is comfortable in the hand in a way that a slim rectangular section is not, and stair handrails are governed by that more than by looks.
Where it is normally used
Fitted over glass balustrades on staircases and balconies, and used wall-mounted as a standalone grab rail. LED-channelled profiles are used where the stair needs lighting without a separate fitting.
What we stock in this range
The Top Handrails range runs to 17 profiles.
Choosing a handrail profile
Grip comes first on a staircase. A 50 mm or 65 mm round section closes comfortably in the hand and is what most stair handrails end up being; square and rectangular sections read cleaner against frameless glass but are less comfortable to run a hand along, and the slim and triangular profiles are chosen where the rail should stay visually quiet. Oval sits between the two — round enough to hold, flat enough to look contemporary.
LED handrails
The LED profiles carry a channel for a strip light, so a staircase or terrace edge is lit from the rail itself instead of from a separate fitting. The incline version is cut to follow a stair pitch. Plan the driver position and the cable route before the rail is fixed, because both run inside the profile.
Fitting over glass or to a wall
Over a glass balustrade the handrail caps the exposed top edge, protecting the arris from impact and tying separate panels into one continuous element. Wall-mounted on brackets it works as a standalone grab rail on a staircase or ramp. Either way the rail should run without sharp breaks so a hand can travel the whole flight.
