Buying Railing Hardware Wholesale: A Guide for Dealers

Buying hardware for a single balcony and buying it for a dealership are different exercises. At volume, the things that cost you money are consistency, lead time and what happens when something goes wrong — not the headline rate.

1. Grade, and proof of it

Establish the grade in writing and ask whether mill test certificates come with the consignment. At dealer volumes a grade substitution is not a one-off annoyance; it is a batch of installations that will stain in the same season and come back to you. 2. Stock lengths and cutting

Profiles are supplied in stock lengths — our continuous profiles run in 12 foot and 16 foot depending on the section, with cover profiles also available cut to a supplied list. Two things matter at volume:

• Which stock length suits your typical run? The wrong one generates offcuts on every job.
• Is cut-to-list available, and what tolerance? Cutting at the factory saves site labour but only if the list is right — see our fabricator's guide.

3. Lead time at your volume

Ask for the lead time at the quantity you actually order, not the single-unit figure, and ask what happens to it in peak season. Ask separately about finish work: a powder-coated batch in a specific RAL is not the same lead time as a mirror-polished one from stock.

4. Finish consistency

This is the one that catches dealers out. Two batches of the same nominal finish can differ enough to be visible when they end up on the same landing. If a project will be supplied across several deliveries, say so at order stage so it can be run as one batch. For colour work, specify the RAL reference rather than a colour name.

5. What happens when something is wrong

• Transit damage — who carries it, and what the claim process is.
• Short supply of a fitting, which is what actually holds a job up.
• Whether individual components can be reordered, or only whole systems.
• Whether the manufacturer will support your fabricator directly on a technical question.

6. Range depth, not just price
