Glass Balustrade Hardware for Export to South Africa
Manufactured in Rajkot, India · available for export to South Africa
Prince Railing manufactures glass balustrade hardware that South African distributors, balustrade fabricators and installers can import factory-direct: spigots, aluminium base channels, glass clamps and handrails in SS 304 and SS 316. Everything is made at our own factory in Rajkot, Gujarat, and we can export it by sea to South Africa through Durban, Cape Town and Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). We have no office, agent or stock in South Africa; you would buy direct from the manufacturer.
What the parts are called in South Africa
The hardware is the same everywhere; the names are not. This is how local trade terms map to our catalogue.
| Term used in South Africa | In our catalogue |
|---|---|
| Balustrade | Railing |
| Spigot / mini post | SS spigot |
| Channel / base channel | Continuous system |
| Glass clamp | Bracket system |
| Handrail / top rail | Top handrail |
| Side-fix / fascia-fix | Side-mount system |
All dimensions are metric. Tell us the glass thickness, whether the panels are toughened or laminated, and the barrier height.
What you get from the factory
- Made in-house. All seven railing systems are produced at our own works in Rajkot, which is how quality and finish stay consistent across a large order.
- Stated steel grade. SS 304 or SS 316, named on the quotation, with mill test certificates available on request.
- Finishes. Anodized, powder-coated, mirror and matt.
- Made to your specification. Glass thickness, supported height and profile length are manufactured to the project.
- Packed for sea freight. Profiles supported along their length with protected ends, fittings boxed and itemised.
Codes your project will be checked against
Balustrades in South Africa come under the National Building Regulations and SANS 10400, with the commonly cited minimum height of 1,000 mm wherever there is a fall, glazing in buildings to SANS 10137 with safety glass to SANS 1263, and loads taken from SANS 10160. The regulations expect a competent person, normally a professional engineer, to sign off a glass balustrade, so share their requirement with your enquiry.
We manufacture the hardware; whether an installed barrier complies is decided by your engineer or certifier for that structure, glass and fixing. We provide profile dimensions, the steel grade and mill test certificates on request so they can make that call.
Steel grade for the climate
Durban and the KwaZulu-Natal coast are subtropical and humid, Cape Town faces the Atlantic, and both call for SS 316 outdoors. Johannesburg and Pretoria sit on the dry highveld, where SS 304 serves exterior as well as interior work. The reasoning is set out in our SS 304 vs SS 316 guide.
Shipping to South Africa
Export orders ship by sea from the Gujarat coast, where Mundra, Kandla and Pipavav are the container ports nearest the factory. The main destination ports for South Africa are Durban, Cape Town and Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). Durban is the main container gateway and serves Gauteng by rail and road; Cape Town serves the Western Cape. Sailings from western India are direct down the East African coast. Packing, documents and the commercial terms worth settling at quotation stage are covered in our guide to importing railing hardware from India; for this market, also see the spigot balustrade guide.
