Glass Balustrade Hardware for Export to the UK

Manufactured in Rajkot, India · available for export to the United Kingdom

Prince Railing manufactures glass balustrade hardware that UK fabricators, installers and trade distributors can import factory-direct: spigots, aluminium base channels, glass clamps and handrails in SS 304 and SS 316. Everything is made at our own factory in Rajkot, Gujarat, and we can export it by sea to the United Kingdom through Felixstowe, London Gateway and Southampton. We have no office, agent or stock in the United Kingdom; you would buy direct from the manufacturer.

What the parts are called in the United Kingdom

The hardware is the same everywhere; the names are not. This is how local trade terms map to our catalogue.

Term used in the United KingdomIn our catalogue
Balustrade Railing
Base channel / base profile Continuous system
Spigot SS spigot
Glass clamp Bracket system
Handrail / capping rail Top handrail
Side fix / fascia fix Side-mount system

All dimensions are metric. Tell us the line load your engineer is designing to and the finished barrier height, and we will confirm which profiles are suited to it.

What you get from the factory

  • Made in-house. All seven railing systems are produced at our own works in Rajkot, which is how quality and finish stay consistent across a large order.
  • Stated steel grade. SS 304 or SS 316, named on the quotation, with mill test certificates available on request.
  • Finishes. Anodized, powder-coated, mirror and matt.
  • Made to your specification. Glass thickness, supported height and profile length are manufactured to the project.
  • Packed for sea freight. Profiles supported along their length with protected ends, fittings boxed and itemised.

Codes your project will be checked against

Barriers in the UK are designed to BS 6180, with heights set by Approved Document K in England and the equivalent documents in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The commonly cited figures are 900 mm for stairs, landings and internal edges in a dwelling and 1,100 mm for external balconies and roof edges, with gaps that stop a 100 mm sphere. Line loads run from 0.36 kN/m in a single dwelling to 3.0 kN/m where crowds gather. BS 6180 expects laminated glass where a frameless balustrade has no continuous handrail, and on taller residential buildings fire regulations restrict the materials allowed in a balcony, so involve your structural and fire engineers early.

We manufacture the hardware; whether an installed barrier complies is decided by your engineer or certifier for that structure, glass and fixing. We provide profile dimensions, the steel grade and mill test certificates on request so they can make that call.

Steel grade for the climate

Nowhere in the UK is far from the sea, and wet, salt-laden air causes the brown tea staining seen on so many seafront balustrades. Specify SS 316 for anything external, and reserve SS 304 for interior stairs and landings. The reasoning is set out in our SS 304 vs SS 316 guide.

Shipping to the United Kingdom

Export orders ship by sea from the Gujarat coast, where Mundra, Kandla and Pipavav are the container ports nearest the factory. The main destination ports for the United Kingdom are Felixstowe, London Gateway and Southampton. Container freight from western India to the UK generally lands at Felixstowe, London Gateway or Southampton, where your customs agent clears it. Packing, documents and the commercial terms worth settling at quotation stage are covered in our guide to importing railing hardware from India; for this market, also see the guide to balustrade, railing and handrail terms.

Exporting to the United Kingdom — FAQs

Yes. Prince Railing manufactures in Rajkot, India and can export to the United Kingdom by sea; the main destination ports are Felixstowe, London Gateway and Southampton. There is no local office, agent or stock, so you would buy direct from the factory.

Compliance is assessed on the installed barrier, with its glass, fixings and structure, so it is confirmed by your own engineer or certifier. We provide the profile dimensions, the steel grade and mill test certificates on request so they can make that assessment.

The systems and quantities, glass thickness, finished barrier height, steel grade, finish, and the destination port in the United Kingdom. A drawing or the specification clause is better than a description.

Both mean the same barrier. Indian trade usage is "railing" and our catalogue follows it; UK usage is "balustrade". A spigot, a base channel and a glass clamp are the same components under either name.
